Supplied by Eurostat and you would expect the capital to be far out ahead anyway.

just noticed the response about the south east of england that supports us economically.

really???? and who uses most of our natural resources - who contributes most to the greenhouse effects? em....think that would be those in the south east of england.

i can't remember the last time a person in the south east supported MY economy...but i guess that's just a thatcherite expression that didn't really die when she did. what do you mean she's not dead yet??? dang!

Guys, come on, get real.

Firstly, Independence will never be granted. We cannot survive as three separate nations, we need each other to be a world power.

Secondly, the majority of Scotland and Wales will not want independance. Equality, yes, and that should be expected, but a republic of Britain is not gonna be on peoples books.

Thirdly, do you seriously believe Scotland will survive without English economice backing? I applaud you for your sources, but sheer wealth generation does not make a useful contribution. Scotland cannot survive, just as wales cannot. England could just about as a minor European power, but look at the facts.

Scotland is scarecly populated, as is Wales, and for all your whinging about Scottish Oil, the British Government does not own the North Sea reserves. Private companies, such as Royal Dutch and BP farm the Oil, we share rights with the Dutch over the Oil Fields and frankly, i cannot see an Independant Scottish Econmy beign able to pay for the upkeep of the Oil Derricks and the costs of transporting and selling Oil, now we have reached Peak prices.

In short, get over yourselves. Scotland will not be 'independant', it cannot survive without the rest of the UK, just as Wales cannot.

Personally, im English, so if you dont like living off our labour and welfare survices, shove it. We unified over 400 years ago, get a grip and deal with the real issues

Indeed but the North Sea is also off the North Eastern coast of England so its not just Scotland. Saying that Scotland are big contributors.

Like the French the English dwell on the past and ignore reality. The country is rampant with social programs that reward those who are too lazy to work. By thinking they are supporting Scotland they give value to their country. One good thing about England is they have guts and stamina. Unlike France they stood up to Germany and support Democracies around the world.

The Scots don't own that oil in the North Sea, it belongs to the UK and it is the English who get most of it. None of the companies involved in it are Scottish either. In fact, we give you revenue on it by allowing Scots to work on the oil fields and things.

You are dependant on us; your economy's not very good at all these days, if it wasn't for money coming in from the rest of the UK you'd be a lot worse off.

If it keeps them happy - why worry - Scotland has heaps better public services. (Keep it quiet, or they will all move North!)
