There are methods that have been around for a very long time and have tried and true formulas to work with----go to the library and check into the meditation books and what is known as TM --this is transendental meditation
Some of the older formulas are still very solid and will do a world of good for you --check the books out--read and try some of the techniques for yourself---I am in a very stressful career---commercial photography---deadlines---alot riding on the responses of others that I have no control over but has an awful lot to do with whether or not the job gets done----stress---If it wasn't for some of these relaxation methods that I use I would be a raving lunatic by now-----Hope this helps

Do some yoga or run in the park. Listen to relaxing music and while leaving your mind in blank. It's hard at the beginning but your mind is going to feel relieved. It's harmful to have too many thoughts in your mind.

Not to sound vulgar or disrespectful, but sex can help ease mental tension. It is also a great cardio workout.

You don't give any details--but finding a good distraction, especially a funny one, is almost always a good idea.

Go see a funny movies, your favority kids cartoon (Finding Nemo??) and divert yourself from whatever is causing the tension.

Exercise can be key, too.

Think about your tongue. Sounds odd, but it'll dominate your thoughts, and the tension will vanish!! If it doesn't work, think about pink Giraffes!! Best wishes!!

I find thrashing it out at the gym works best, then going out and getting quite pissed!!!
