I've been a Bass player for over 30 yr's
& always used a Plectrum because I seem to get a more full on sound More Punchier sound, With finger playing, the sound is too Boxy, unclear & Muffled.
A Bass is to be heard as much as felt.

Depends on the players style Mark king uses his thumb to whack the strings cos it gives a more percussive sound whilst Bootsy Collins uses any thing he wants to! Geddy Lee uses his fingers and even sometimes plays keyboard with his right hand and still plays the bass with his left just tapping the strings on the neck ! but they are all awesome players but all have differing styles and all different styles of music best reply I can give !
