There should be no political correct or un-correct statements. Things should be told as the are and if people dont like it then thats too bad!

In my opinion, it does both. Political correctness by its nature can undermine democracy by establishing a set of "norms" by a majority...or an apparent majority (apparent, because they got their perspective into the mainstream in a profound manner with much more visibility and passion, via media or some other source). This undermines democracy because if a silent majority exists with an opposing view, then this "apparent mainstream" is choosing what is politically correct for the rest of us.
But in a real democracy, we must learn to listen to voices of many opinions...even ones we deeply oppose.

Depends how you look at it. PC was invented by the radical Left so that people couldn't insult others and bring down discussions to a base level of ad hominem. So it helps democracy forcing people to be civil while discussing things.
On the other hand, it makes people scared to say things for fear of being shouted down by PC'ers. Self-censorship is the most dangerous form because it means people are consciously not expressing themselves and feel disconnected from society, which doesn't help democracy at all.

Don't know about democracy, but in general, it's undermining our ability as a society to function. We're spending so much time now worrying about other people's feelings that we're not addressing the real issues facing us.

There two different things. Democracy means that the union will vote on their leader and other things. Political Correctness is some dumbas thing that the liberals made up so no one would feel bad. for instance, if you are black, anyone who cared about political correctness (lousy democrats) would call you "african american" YOUR NOT FROM AFRICA! THE WORD BLACK IS NOT INSULTING. IF I SAID "I HATE ALL BLACKS" WOULD IT REALY BE ANY LESS INSULTING THAN " I HATE ALL AFRICAIN AMERICANS"? if you are black, you are black. not african american. if you were african american that means you were born in africa and came to america. If that is the case, then you are an african american AND black. black is a color, africain american is a imigrant. DEAL WITH IT.

It contradicts democracy because it limits freedom of speech and to some extent, freedom of thought.

Discredits progressive social change, especially around issues of race and gender. Politically correct speech can be used to indulge a particular minority group and while avoiding acknowledging any misconduct or shortcomings of individuals of such a group.

"Political Correctness" is in itself a contradiction, and is little more than doubletalk designed to fool the average person into believing a politician's point of view (another oxymoron) is right.

Neither. 'Political correctness' is a somewhat pejorative term for going with the apparent mainstream on any controversial topic, but particularly those involving interpersonal relations.

Much of it is a lie and abused to death by those who do it because they can. I would say it's a contradiction.
