There is no solenoid or carburettor on that vehicle. There may be a problem with one of the sensors on the a/c system or in the engine management system. The computer is supposed to raise the idle when the a/c comes on. Take it to a competent mechanic to diagnose the problem.

You may need an engine tune-up. If your engine can't handle the load of the A/C, it probably has a hard time going up hill or carrying extra passengers. I would also have the vacuum lines checked. The car is 10 years old and rubber parts don't last forever.

There's a solenoid on the side of the carburator-Throttle Body that opens the throttle just a little bit to make up for the drag on the engine.
It is either un plugged, miss adjusted, or malfunctioning.

i have a 95 escort, and does the same thing, does the same in cold weather when i turn on the heat. someone told me it is the alternator. let it be known if you resolve this issue please, and i will do the same. ty
