when creating a website, the first thing to do is to figure out, exactly or approximate, what the purpose of the site is. Then the next thing to do is to find a design that clicks with you and your website purpose. After that, of course, the obstacle is coding. HTML is sort of like the backbone programming language on the internet, and it oesn't take a whole lot of expertise to edit an existing page. For a nice design while you're a beginner, you can download a free page template from numerous sites. Then you can edit the text inside the pages to suit your pourpose.
-Putting your site on the internet is the next step. For a relatively short URL, you can get a subdomain and a moderate amount of web space for FREE. My choice for web hosting is www.wmpro.info/forum, where you can request free hosting. Then, using a control panel, you can upload your files and there you have it.

The best program to learn for website design is Dreamweaver -but it's not a simple program. I'd suggest you start there.

If you want to get a basic overview of webpage design and functionality, feel free to read these articles:

It's a 3-part article series aimed at real estate agents, but it has information basic to all effective web design. There are other articles on how to market your website on this site as well.

It's not easy to build a good website - but it is worthwhile.

Best of luck!

Go to Borders or Barnes and Noble, there are some good step by step web design books in the computer and technology section. I got a great book there on creating HTML webpages, but i'm sure they have books on using Dreamweaver and other programs too.

to seriously build a good site you need to build it yourself without a free builder or a paid builder....to get to know the basics and to know more once you know that go to http://w3schools.com , they have the best site to learn html, xhtml, javascript, css, java, and all the other languages. Good luck

Buy the webspace and then use their technical support and read all the information they give you.

IXWebhosting is good and so is IPowerweb.
