trying to hook up pc camera {webcam}

should be as simple as hooking the usb up to the back of the computer

I don't think putting hardware in the DVD drive is going to work, try plugging the cable into a USB port

put the SOFTWARE driver CD into the cd/dvd drive, and install the driver.
THEN plug the camera into your USB port.
Plugging the camera in before installing the driver can result in a non-functional camera.

Never put hardware in your DVD drive, only put software in it.
And I've never heard of a "DVD com" drive, so , dunno what to tell you there.

Yes. It's probably a USB cable. It goes in the back of the computer itself. Rectangle peg fits into rectangle hole.
