It's probably too late to do it now but next time you have a sale, you could try an ad in the newspaper classifieds. Or put it in the free classifieds (in this area the free classifieds are called "Thrifty Nickel").
I liked the other suggestion about the balloons and bright signs. You could also put up signs that point the direction to your rummage sale. If you do that, get permission from people to put a sign in their yard. (Also on those signs you should include the address, day, and time of the sale). Be sure to take down all the signs once the sale is over.

Good ideas from silly chick. Also, do you have enough signs in the right places letting people know how to get to your rummage sale? Put one on a telephone pole at the nearest busy road near your place that gives directions.

Maybe have free refreshments and a Bake Sale with it? You can have door prizes or combine similar items, kitchen items, jewelry, toys, etc., and make grab bags of these things, to give them away every hour (just have people put their names in a bag and shake it up). Give away a free small inexpensive item with each purchase. Advertise in advance and make announcements in free local advertising media. Make it fun festive by decorating a little and put up some balloons.

Get a teaser. Something everyone would want. Perhaps a good antique like a copper pot or rocking chair. Put it out where anyone driving by can see it. When they inquire say it's no longer available. Good Luck
