hi i am a 19 yr old male...its been 4 days since i have taken the 7.26 kg shotput and started practising for my college competition today i have taken the measurements and my best throw was 42 feets [12.5 mts]...how do u rate this throw for a 19yr old? poor,beginner,average, good, great? how much should a 19 yr old throw to be considered good?..whts r the teen records so far....should i take this sport seriously......waiting for ur answers with 10 pts.THX IN ADVANCE.

Well, 42' for a 16 pound shot, after just 4 days is not too bad. As far as how competitive it'll be, that depends on what level of competition you're taking part in.

NCAA - Div I, forget it. Those guys throw in the 60's and up

Div II / III - Probably around 55'+

NAIA or Jr. College - Around 45'+

Elite college throwers are in the mid to high 60's, the US Jr. National Record (Jrs are below the age of 20) is 67'-9".......Sean Shields (Arizona).

If you could manage to improve to the upper 40's, then I'd say to stick with it

Good, but the distances will increase for college.
