Hi,

I would love to say,

it's an interjection/noun, a part of an introduction at the beginning of the speech.

1. for office/public use
"Good morning/afternoon/evening, ladies and gentlemen.Today I would like to focus upon ~"

2. at school
"Good morning, everyone. My name is ~. I would like to talk about ~ today."

I think it sounds more serious and nice that a speaker says, 'good morning' instead of saying 'hello' in a public at the beginning of his/her speech.

When people have or take an interview, you may say, 'hello!' to start and it would be friendly and nice. :-)

Good luck!
