Okay so I'm a musics education student and my dad was talking to be about left handed violins... he wanted to know if there was such a thing because there are left handed guitars and basses... are there really left handed violins, and if there is, can you please have a web site as to where I would be able to find them? MY sister's friend is left handed and she's learning how to play normal violin.. if it was left handed they think it would be easier for her, thanks if advance for your time!

Yes, there are left-handed violins, but most left-handed people still choose to play 'normal' violins, for the fact that the strings would have to be reversed, the soundpost position changed, and their place in an orchestra would look quite strange.

I've actually seen a picture of a left-handed orchestra....everything was completely opposite...

Hope this helps!

The Violin doesn't change for left or right handed players. The left hand is always used for fingering the strings and right hand for the bow. A left handed player might actually have an advantage because of the dexterity required in the fingers. If you think about it, you wouldn't rearrange a piano for a left hander, the violin is the same way.

There are indeed left-handed violins, but they are not a standard instrument, more like novelties. Your sister's friend would be far better off learning on a regular violin. There are many, many left-handed violinists. The violin requires a lot of skill from both hands, so it's not necessarily an advantage to be right-handed.

um...i don't think there is such a thing of left handed violins. i'm left handed and i've been playing the way everyone else has been: the violin on ur left side. if there was such a thing, i wouldn't take it cause i've been playing the violin for about 5 years and i'm use to it on mi left side. just let ur sister play the violin on her left side and she'll get use to it. soon, it won't bother her at all.

There are left-handed violins. I have seen them. There are even 5-string violins! Crazy, isn't it? If you live in California, they sell them at the Bluegrass festival in Grass Valley during the summer time. I think this information will definetly help:
