Soc. Sec. cut $265/mo from my benefits when I moved to the Caribbean. They won't reply to my emails. Anybody else have this problem???

Governments have different agreements with one another about reciprocal benefits. For example, Canada Pension Plan which is a contributory pension or disability plan, will allow you to continue to collect when you move to certain other countries that Canada has a reciprocal agreement with ... I am aware that Social Security can be both SSDI and/or SSI in the U.S. I know that SSI is not transferable if you move out of the U.S., although the SSDI probably is. You may want to find out the rules on the SSA website and how they apply to you.

It depends on whether the US has a totalisation agreement with the country you moved to. Right now, there are only 6 or 7 countries with totaliz. agreements and none of them are caribbean. So you are subject to whatever the agreement is between the US and the island you live on.

What the US has done just recently and very vigorously is visit countries esp. the caribbean ones to enforce the worldwide taxation policy. They're putting a lot of pressure on countries to tell the US which US citizen pays which taxes (or not).

Social Security has recently gone on a benefit cutting binge. I've never had any, but have heard tales of woe from those who had. Send them recorded letters, and keep at it.

Well I guess you shouldn't have moved there... get direct deposit in the states... use a relatives address for all correspondence from social security... develop relationship with bank in carribean and bank in the states.... I thin' that might fix the problem....

depends on where u move my brother moved to canada and got an increase it depends on the cost of living
