DSL and Broadband is not available in my area, but is available about a one minute drive from here. There is absolutely no company who will provide service to me, so I am stuck with dial-up. Is there anybody else in the world in my situation? It is soo slow!!

I used to be and we both know that it SUX! I hated having it because it would take me forever just to check my email or get directions or something like that. Now I have Internet on a different line then my phone and no dial up so its a lot easier! I know what it's like so I feel ur pain. But trust me you'll find a way to get it and when you do it feels like heaven! Well not quite but pretty close! Good luck!

The big problem with DSL is that you can only use it through a phone line if there are no telephone amplifiers between you and the server. This is usually no more than one mile. Some areas have special lines to extend this range but are still limited in how far they can be from the server. Phone companies are installing regional server units so hopefully soon you will be able to get DSL. Cable is some different but is also limited to the type of system being used. Also the farther from the server you are the slower the transmission will be.

There are lots of people who are stuck in the same situation that is because the ISPs offering broadband and dsl are not getting as many request from a region that they are hesitant to put up a new central office (the place where they transmit and receive signals) an alternate to this would be requesting the ISP to add something called a Remote Terminal. Usually DSL and Broadband are offered to people who are within 20000 Ft from the central office all others have to rely on Remote Terminals

Don't worry, I still have dial-up! I will be moving this winter and then we'll be able to get DSL. I'm looking forward to it! But right now we're in the same boat.

Yeah. My ancient rig can't handle DSL. Until I can afford something better, I'm stuck with dial-up.

Yep. I am in the same boat. I live in redneck country, Canada. They do not even have highspeed dial up here where I am. It is depressing as I moved here recently from Toronto where I had cable. Very slow...very annoyed!!! :(

I hear you. I live in hick town America. We got 911 five years ago. I expect wireless or DSL to come here in fifty years. Yes it sucks. I can feel wrinkles forming while waiting for a page to load. Your not alone.

These days, dial-up is relatively slow. However, it is still relevant for laptop computers. Albeit still rather expensive, you may want to consider a satelite connection to the Internet for your desktop.

I know a family in a neighboring community that still has dial-up.
So you are not alone. There are TWO people who still use dial-up.
