sorry for the dumbass annswers you're received so far (i meant the first two). personally, my first two picks are always running backs. most leagues are set up where they are the big points winners anyway. you need to carry at least two no matter what. might as well pick the best available in your draft.
some will say peyton manning or another marquee qb should be your first pick. stats will show you that the difference in overall points earned when picking a qb early vs. one late in the draft is almost negligible. anyway, read the articles below. good luck!
by the way, the other recommendations you've received so far only help you if you have one of the first three picks in your draft. outside of those, you need a good strategy that goes well beyond your fist three picks. do your research.

It's going to come down to your personal preference. Larry Johnson, Shawn Alexander and LaDainian Tomlinson are considered to be 1 a,b,c this year. They are all fantasy studs and will strengthen your team.
If I had first overall pick, I would take Alexander. He is the safe pick. LJ hasn't shown that he can play for a full year and Tomlinson has a rookie QB. That being said, LJ was a monster last year and if produced like that for a full season, he can single handedly win his owner the championship. Similarily, because LT has a rookie QB you know that he is going to get a lot of touches. It is just a matter of whether Rivers is good enough to ensure that defences do not stack the box against LT. Hence, I would take Shawn. Plays on a good team in a weak division and has a great O-Line. Nice safe #1 pick.
Of course, if you are in a keeper league, then you take LJ. He hasn't had the wear and tear of the other two.

Hard to say without more info...scoring system...your draft position, size of the draft. That said...
Take LJ, Shawn Alexander, or LT2 if you can. If not then Portis or Tiki. If not then its a crapshoot...of RB's S Jackson, Edge, Ronnie Brown, La Mont Jordan, Carnell Williams. IF you can grab one of those do it...I might take S. Smith in some scoring systems around 10, 11, or 12 especially if someone else invests in Manning. Don't take a QB in the first round unless its a 2 QB league...its tough to get quality RB's and WR's if you take Manning so early. Mid to late 2nd is the earliest a QB should be taken...and Manning won't last that long.

One of these three:
Larry Johnson
Pros: Most upside of the three; would've broken the single-season rushing record last year if he was the starter from Day One. He's in an offense committed to the run, and Gonzo keeps LBs honest for him.
Cons: Least experienced of the three; lost his fullback, offensive coordinator, and head coach this offseason.
Shaun Alexander
Pros: Is a proven commodity; the consensus "safe pick" of the three.
Cons: Can you say "Super Bowl Hangover?" Ask the last few Super Bowl losers about that phenomenon. Also, didn't he just get a fat paycheck? He also lost a key blocker or two via free agency.
LaDainian Tomlinson
Pro: Also a proven commodity; he's practically money. And he's in an offense committed to the run, and Gates keeps LBs honest for him.
Cons: How many red zone opportunities will he get now that Drew Brees isn't there to matriculate the ball downfield? Philip Rivers scares me.
Essentially, you have to go with your gut and pick one of these three...the one YOU think will post the best season. To me, they are 1a, 1b, and 1c and you can't go wrong with any of them.
That said, there are some people who have their hearts set on one of these three, so if you can trade down to #2 or #3, get something of value, and still be in position to grab one of these three, then do it IMMEDIATELY.

I assume we're talking NFL. Marc Bulger. Running this Rams offense he's gonna be the Peyton Manning of last year. He's got Steven Jackson in the backfield(who is ready for a breakout year), and the same old duo of Torry Holt and Issac Bruce on the wings with a great young supporting receiving core.

I have Peyton Manning. I will win. I would draft a running back though. I think that will pay off in the long run.

Well I would definatly go with Sawn Alexander, Ladainian Tomlinson, or Payton Manning. Every year they rack up HUGE points for people. So pick them #1 or they'll be gone.

Tom Brady. he's a good solid quarterback with a lot of success. as for running backs, i would say Shaun Alexander just because of the season he had last year. I like Tiki Barber, Rudi Johnson, and Larry Johnson though as this seasons top running backs

dude itsLT, LJ, or alexander.--I'm scared of LT at number one with the rookie qb, At the number one pick i think you are spliting hair s between the other 2 but the seahawks are going to score alot of points, I think alexander is more of a proven player and he did set the touchdown record last year. He is thye safer pick.
