The problem is that usually the ingredients of the acne control usually are formulatted with benzoyl peroxide, this ingredient is very strong and it overdries your skin. When using acne products look for salycilic acid instead, this is powerful and will not overdry your skin but will control the acne. also bathing daily cleanses the skin, but it also can dry it out, causing it to look dull, but most importantly, it may cause irritation and remove the natural emolients your body produces to keep it healthy. When you bathe, always use a moisture-rich cleanser, and always pamper your skin with a daily moisturizer. i had strugle with acne for over 9 years and i have tried everything and visited every doctor and done everything as they said and nothing helped me ever microdermabration... until i tried these botanically based products formulated qithout mineral oil and without animal products. These do not get absorbed by the skin and what it does is that it clogs your pores. In fact mineral oil is the 2nd worse thing you could do to your skins health #1 is the sun, it is like rubbing car oil on your skin and exposing yourself to the sun... Animal product come form rendering plants, these plants pick all dead animals from the road, meatmarkets etc and what they do is put them in a huge pot and squash everything inside and boil it the oil that comes to the top is what other companies use to formulate their "beauty" products ... gross i know.. eww lipstick and aghhh .. anyway, the important thing to do is read your ingredients and use the right ones regularly ....I use arbonne products.... http://arbonnepuertorico.myarbonne.com . (under shop online) because they are botanically based and you could really see the difference, as i told you before i had acne and lots of blemishes and my skin has cleared so much thanks their line clear advantage , it really is amazing and they have everything for everybody.... theire deep pore cleansing mask and their scrub is just perfect for eliminating the blackheads. Also their face wash is great because it cleanses without drying and removes all traces of makeup and dirt.... works wonderful for me and the bes thing is that you could shop online, receive it in your house and if ther is something you do not like about the products which is rarely to happen, you return the item and they give your money back ....you have nothing to loose only dry skin and some acne ;~)

Proactiv is a good product but everyones skin isn't the same so that's why it maybe did not work for you. A good alternative from Proactiv that I found is AcneFree it is a product made by a medical university that is made to be a mock up of Proactiv, but it's different. My friend had Proactiv and I used AcneFree and my face cleared up much quicker than hers, but we do have different skin. You can get it most large stores such as Walmart, BJ's, and Costco's and it ranges at the ten to thirty dollars range, I think. It also comes with other than the face wash the toner, and lotion and sometimes the terminator, but i only do the full system every other day, but if it doesn't work for you don't do that, and I ususally do not use the terminator, because it dries up my already dry skin from two other products. I also have problems with acne and I went to my doctor or you could go to a dermetologist and ask if a combination of two products called Differen and Duac are right for you, they almost imediately cleared my skin up! My doctor also said that it really doesn't matter what your face wash is you just have to wash your face everyday, but it's the perscription is what matters. But the remember it really does depend on the severity of your acne of what your doctor or dermetologist will perscribe. And for these hot summer days protect your face with Neutregena non-comedigetic (won't clog pores) Healthy Defense 45 spf Suncreen. It has the seal of the National Skin Cancer Soicety and mine as well hope these suggestions help you, and good luck with clearing your face up!

Here are some REALLY good, and very inexpensive ways to treat most acne at home. Try each method (unless you’re allergic to the ingredients) until you find one that works best for you. Good luck =) BTW, I know some of these may sound bizarre but try them…what have you got to lose other than the acne!!

1. Put toothpaste on your acne before going to bed. (Make sure it is paste not gel). It should reduce the swelling of acne noticeably.

2. Dab egg whites on your acne and leave on for 20 minutes or overnight. It’s supposed to pull the infection out of the blemish.

3. Wash acne infected areas twice a day with warm salt water. This reduces oils in the skin and helps to dry the acne up without further agitation.

4. Use ice on acne before going to bed. This works best on pimples that have not yet formed a head. It reduces swelling and helps to prevent scarring.

5. Wash and dab acne with cotton balls that have been soaked in vinegar. Let dry; do not wash off immediately.

6. Place strawberries leaves over your acne and the alkalinity will help to reduce the swelling.

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

Forget all that "brand-name" junk. Just rub regular rubbing alcohol on your face once or twice a day, and wait for the results.
