Is this a real question? I've worked in the ghetto and I live in the suburbs, and I can tell you I would choose suburbs 1000 times out of 1000. Being ready for whatever life throws at you is not related in any way, shape, or form to where you live.
The difference between the ghetto and the suburbs, frankly, is that the suburbs are less dangerous and offer a better way of life. Take it from a few of my friends who grew up in the ghettos of Philly, NYC, and South Africa.

Never been on the ghetto or lived in the suburbs. I've lived in the country and now a city. If I could I'd go back to the country.

that "something" that "happens" in you life maybe death or serious bodily injury if you live in the ghetto! i sort of get what you are saying. you think living in the ghetto will make you well rounded or tougher. you are also assuming that living in the suburbs somehow shelters you in life. i assure you that some of the most ruthless business people live in the suburbs and not the ghetto. no sane person should want to live in the ghetto by choice. its ok to live there if you have no choice or are born there. but, at some point in your life you should strive to get out because it is not the way to live.
you dont have to live in the suburbs either, but in life you should strive for the best life possible for yourself and your family. ever heard of a good school in the ghetto?

You can be ready for what happens in life no matter where you live -- it's a mental attitude of "I can take this", "I can overcome this", "This thing that's happening is just a thing, it is not my life", "I am responsible for my own life", "whatever my parents/friends/releatives did or do, doesn't dictate what I have to do or become".
You can live in a ghetto and never be anything but a ghetto-living slug with no future or hope; or you can live in a suburb and never be anything but a suburb-living slug.
Life is more than what you own or where you live.

The ghetto may not be as "safe" as the suburbs, but I would still rather live there. First, I think that Americans are TOO safe. Life involves a bit of danger, and this distancing from danger that the suburbs creates takes away from the reality of life. Also, I believe that in the ghetto, people are more open to a sense of community, whereas in the burbs people tend to stay locked in their houses, offering only sterile and awkward pleasantries in between their front doors and their cars.

I grew up in the Suburbs. And i live int eh Ghetto now. I would give anything to get the HELL OUT OF HERE! Please don't talk about the ghetto like is some fairy tale place that teaches you how to be street smart. They steal and trash cars, my neighbor is a drug dealer (he is 11 YEARS OLD!!!) Teen moms fighting in the parking lot, while their babies watch and cry. Cops here every night. Shootings, My apartment used to belong to a hooker named Jessy, so i get plenty of visitors. There is nothing educational about sleeping with a 9mm at the head of my bed. and honey, you can't ALWAYS be ready for anything. stay here long enough, and it'll catch up with you. Until then, you watch, and cry, and rage. and pray alot.

You're right about that....I once saw a cartoon of a little mouse that lived in the ghetto...but he was A RICH MOUSE...but he was trying to avoid the IRS from getting his millions...so every time someone knocked on his door he would touch a button that would switch his "beautiful golden room" into a GHETTO house...the IRS never caught on ..he lived to be a RICH OLD MOUSE.....

"would rather live in the ghetto so when something happens i your life u can be ready for it"--that's like saying "I'd rather live in a prison than an apartment so that I can learn to be prepared to fight for my life". Looks like a terrible expense to learn something.

I have lived in "Both"!! Prefer the "Ghetto"---"NOT!!!" Just kidding. No, but, when I was oh, about 7-8, months, pregnant with my 3rd child, we moved in with my sister to split the rent...she lived on "Lime" street in Long Beach,Cal. The "West-Side",,,,,,,Well,one day while my husband was at work, we were going to sell one of our cars, so, I went out to clean it up and box up all our belongings... Lo' and behold...Two guys start coming down the street right in my direction, "Waving a gun, shouting how he was going to "Pop" that *****"!! I started ducking around my car just in case he accidently got off a "stray one" you know, all the way until they got around the block!! Ha!-Ha! Not funny!! Its not easy to duck when your 7-8, months pregnant, for as long as I did.... However, there definately isn't a "Dull" moment in the "Ghetto", and the Suburbs are just a little too Blah !!! For me..So, I live in an area, that's a little of both,, but nowhere near, when I lived on "Lime street", in Long Beach!!! I'm quite fine, just where I live......
