Depends on how the patient treats it. If you follow orders and stay off of it, apply ice at 20 minute intervals and keep it elevated, it should only take a few days, depending on the severity of the injury. Hope this helps.

The answer to that question very much depends on what type and degree of injury you have. My sister's best friend recovered from an ankle sprain in a few weeks. I had a grade 3 inversion ankle sprain and spent a month in bed and 5 months later I still have a bit of weakness, mild discomfort and reduced range of motion, all of which my Dr assures me is normal for the sprain that I had. Mine will probably take about a year to be completely back to normal with some permanent weakness.

I suppose it depends on the severity of it. I fell over at a rock concert a few years ago, and landed awkwardly on my ankle, it really hurt, and when I went to hospital, I ended up getting a plaster cast put on it which I had to wear for 4 weeks, and after the cast was removed, I still couldn't put weight on my ankle, and had to use a stick for a week or so.

As previous correspondents have said, depends! I tore the ligaments in my ankle a few years ago and it is still prone to swelling if I walk too far or over exercise. It certainly brings home the fact that we take our mobility (as we do our general health) for granted!

If not taken care of if can take up to 6 months to heal completely. If it is not real bad and you stay off of it for a couple of days, it should be fine, it just depends on the amount of damage.
