All the officers I've met are really nice. I was joking around with one once saying things like all they do is eat donuts etc. It's a long story but yeah we just got to joking around because I was sitting on a bench and they were out directing traffic and I started to list off all the slang for police I could think of (no not bad ones) and one of them heard me say "flat foot" and was like "we dont have flat feet!" ha. As for buddying up to the lame thugs, well if they're not posing a real danger then they just want to keep things as calm as possible, and not rile them up

I for one don't care to be around *** kissin people. I'd bet that most officers know what the "respectful" suspect is really feeling about them, and get a little miffed at the bullshit. The "Thugs", on the otherhand are straightforward enough to acknowledge the fact that they are put out by the officers disruption and would appreciate haste rather than waste. The officer can appreciate this honesty , not wishing to waste his time on insincere chit chat either. My guess based on my own personal observations.

fear.....they want to show power and command with all they can, so the respectful person is easy to use in this situation. However the "thug" could easily tie the officer in a knot around a nearby tree, so they tend to be less vocal and obnoxious with them.

All the cops I know are more like the thugs than they want to admit.
