Alcohol is classed as a depressant. You may feel eurphoric at the time of taking it but the overall effect is as a depressant. But like nearly everything in life it comes down to moderation and balance.
Physically alcohol is not good for you, but again in moderation it is ok, and red wine is even known to help thin the blood. But people's ideas of moderation are different, for examlpe a couple of glasses of wine a day plus a few more on weekends may seem like a moderate amount, but in the long term that is a lot of alcohol and it will be damaging your liver. If you are worried about what is a safe amount often your body will tell when it's time to stop, eg, I never used to get hang overs when in my early twenties, but now ten years later it only takes a few drinks and I am very hung over.
So have a few drinks, but listen to your body and do what feel right for you.

Alcohol can sometimes be a positive thing for mental health in that you can feel free and happy. Sometimes you need to have a good party and a laugh and be outrageous - it really cheers you up! DRUGS are also good for this.

However, generally speaking, drugs and alcohol are bad for your mental health - you can end up depressed, anxious, or they can trigger other mental diseases such as schizophrenia.

Alcohol is particularly bad for physical health. It affects all the organs in your body, in particular the liver. Heavy drinkers and alcoholics suffer with heart diseases, strokes, cirrhosis of the liver and other serious chronic illnesses.

So really it's just fun to party from time to time.
