looks like a lot of people on this forum do for some ignorant reason. they cannot see that the whole ideology specifically excludes them. kinda surprising how quickly it came along too. i think the religious republicans are shifting farther right.

"The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders...tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger."

There was a beautiful article on TIME i think during my school days "Are we Fascists"? Very enlightening one...but that was 25-odd years ago. Things have changed a lot from then.

The short answer is fascism is supported by people who are afraid. The leaders are control freaks, but the citizens who support them are looking for security.

One correction: Fascists are not necessarily anti-liberal The Nazi party was Germany's National SOCIALIST Party. According to Marx, Socialism is a transition state between Capitalism and Communism.

I don't think a society purposely sets out to support a fascist regime. It probably starts from a political system designed around a charismatic model (meaning, the leader is a defacto king), and gets muddled with nationalism warped into rampant social conformity. This makes the charismatic leader the puppet master, conveying proper social action to the obediant masses.

I think a parliamentary system of government is great at deterring this, because the Prime Minister is never directly elected by the population. S/He is just the first minister among the cabinet, appointed by the party with the most votes. This deters the leader from assuming the role of king, because s/he is easily replaced by any other member of the party, and balanced by a strong opposition leader.

oh, recycled goat! :) it's not just this admin. but admins. since the birth of this nation. the u.s. gov't has supported fascism since 1776. granted we have many opportunities here that i'm grateful for, BUT, it's true. most laws and amendments and what not formed 200+yrs ago were devised to protect landowners and businesses. most people who owned land were the minority, but since they had all the $, the had most of the power. ever hear that the country is run by the wealthy minority?......

Ann Coulter is a fascist.

Bush/Cheney are authoritarians not fascists. They are corporatists, but not fascists. They are militarists, but not fascists.

Fascism is best defined as such:
"palingenetic ultranationalist populism. (Palingenesis is the concept of mythic rebirth from the ashes, embodied by the Phoenix.)"

Definition is from http://www.cursor.org/stories/fascismiii.php

2. People who when to public schools and were taught self-esteem rather than civics and critical thinking, thanks to the NEA and AFT.
