a psychopath has lost touch with reality and carries out his/her (more often his) horrible deed because they believe God tells them or they have a divine connection with someone. they are mentally ill and this illness makes them dangerous. a VERY SMALL percentage of people with mental illness are psychopathic depite media play

sociopaths know what they are doing. they are in touch with reality. they know right from wrong. they just dont care. they are often capable of charming their way out of a situation. not all sociopaths end up in jail. i used to work with one. he was a creep but charmed a lot of other people in my office. left town owing a lot of people money. there is a much higher percentage of sociopaths in society than psychopaths and they are harder to recognize at times because they can come across as perfectly normal. they just dont have a conscience. they also dont respond to medications while a psychopath may to some degree.
