Use a tool called Fiddler...u can get it from www.fiddlertool.com
this would capture the nework packets you exchanged with others on the internet.but i am not sure that you can know the exact ip of the chat user as most of them use proxy servers and gateways and i believe they also route through yahoo servers so i m not sure that you get the exact IP of other chat user
and also for this you need to understand some networking protocols
you can also use ethreal or netmon tools for the same
hope that helps

Yes Dude that is possible. Here what you need to do. Just keep on chatting and send th other person a reasonably big file of 3 MB in case of dial up connection or 10 MB in case of broadband. Make sure you win trust so that it becomes easier for you to force them to accept your file. Say its something good you want to share. Before you send the file go to Command prompt (Start/ Run/ CMD/ OK) and in the black screen type "netstat -n" without quotes. It will show you the already established connections. Just keep that window open. Now send the file and type the command again. This time you will see a new IP and rest will be same or missing. That's your target. To make sure after the file transfer is done after 2 minutes type that command again and compare with 3 results that you already have. Isn't that simple.
Hope that helps you buddy!

There is now a security hole in Yahoo Messenger, which may have been there earlier too. This website http://tools.vngoogle.com/ gives you a link to a small image that you will send to your buddy.
Yahoo Messenger on your buddy's computer will display the image along with a button asking if he wants to "Start Photo Sharing." Your buddy don't have to click the button: the displaying of the image has already compromised his IP address.
I don't know if this works if he's not in your buddy list. Nevertheless Yahoo needs to fix this bug!

Basically, without actually asking them, you really can't. Your IP address should be kept private and not given out (guard it like you would guard your phone number).
That goes as a warning, too - don't give yours out. Most software (Y! Messenger included) will directly connect without revealing your IP address to whomever you're talking to.

possible to find out his IP if he is not using a proxy, you hire someone to make a site that allows for people to post comments. wait for him to post something abusing, check the website logs for his IP. And I agree with Daniel "Also, line spacing. Also, wrong category. Also, stop pissing off the nerds." you are in the wrong place, hire a private investigator or something if you don't like the police.

Not unless you're the Yahoo Network Administrator, you can't.

While you're chatting with them, bring up a command line (Start-Run, type "cmd" without the quotes, hit Enter), type "netstat" and hit Enter. You may be able to figure out which one is them.
