its gotta be the beatles but when the sun comes out the beach boys is by far the best music.....
esp if you live by the beach!!

That is a matter of taste, I suppose.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Beach Boys. But let's face it - the real creative force was Brian Wilson behind them, whereas several of the other band members were content to 'stick to the formula', that is simple melodies, words about babes and hot rods that aren't too profound.
On the Beatles, you had Lennon/McCartney who would do whatever they pleased regardless of what the public and their fans felt. After they made enough money, they recorded exactly what THEY wanted.
I think artistically, there is no contest, and you're hearing this from a Californian.

depends what you want to get from either.
The Beatles had their good moments and they had their off-periods.
Hard Day`s Night & Help was their better periods. Sgt Pepper they were really screwed up by then.
As for the Beach Boys - a different country & a differnt era.
