Because seperation of church and state is only an idea that reflects the first amendment. The first amendments freedom of religion only states: #1. the govenrment can't set up a National Government #2. The government should not favor one government over another by giving it money, etc. Seperation of church and state is not used in the constitituion... it is a phrase Jefferson used. As the years have passed people have pushed the concept too far, saying that government and religion should not mix. If the government wanted to split a billion dollars between the five major religions, it could do that.. b/c it is not breaking the two rules above. The first amendment was not designed to abolish religion, it was designed to keep everyone's religion safe. Then you get people who want NO religion, and that's when the problems start... athiests have banned together (sort of like a religion) to try and take God out of everything. I'm not trying to disrespect anyone's beliefs--- if you want to believe there is no god, fine. But, this country was built by God fearing people, and shamefully taken from the Indians who are also very spiritual and believe in a creator God among others. So in my opinion, the minority of athiests should be protected--- shouldn't be forced to go to church, etc, etc, but that's where it ends. To try and take the term God out of everything just because a few are offended or to take away religious holidays because the church and state "should be seperated" I think that is pushing it a little too far.

Because only liberals whine about seperation of church and state (which does not actually exist ANYWHERE in the Constitution), but the only thing they like more then attacking everything that America stands for, is money they didn't earn, any holiday for whatever reason is still a good thing.

Because you have religious freedom. It is not a totalitarian state.
