Advantages:
1.) Everything is equal between people.
2.) No poverty, no excessive and unnecessary wealth.

Disadvantages:
1.) All businesses are federally owned, so there isn't competition or individuality in the market. This means a.) higher prices and b.) everyone's got identical items in their household.
2.) No matter the quality or quantity of work put in during the day, the paycheck is still the same. There is no incentive to improve in a communist community, since you'll never get the benefits of that improvement.
3.) Easily corruptible government. People in charge are 'more equal' than others, so they get more money and more land, etc.

Besides that, there really isn't anything big either way. Personally, I believe that if there were an incorruptable leader, communism could work, but... where are you gonna find one of those?

I would suggest reading "Animal Farm" to get a better grasp on the ups and downs of communism.

Good argument tm tech32. Try understanding your subject and being specific.

One advantage to communism (in theory) is that everyone measures themself based on the well-being of the worst off person. Nobody wants to see someone in the mud so that they might have fewer taxes. It is a beautiful concept based on socialist ideas and ensures that nobody can get too greedy or too hungry.

Every modern government in the world uses socialist ideas to help secure the future of their country. These are things like Social Security, food stamps, Medicare, FEMA. In other countries, these socialist ideals are more prevelent and lead to national health care, free higher education, and high minimum wages. I'm talking about Japan, Germany, France, the UK, Canada.

One disadvantage to this particular argument is that most of the "communist" countries (or ones who call themselves that) are actually autocratic dictatorships who have little regard for the higher goals of socialist thought.

So you could say the major disadvantage of communism is that it will always get a bad rap from the freedom hating dictoators who invoke the word.
