Yes in as much as there should be NO mandated and state sponsored church. Yes because you have to protect church from the state. No because, contrary to what many people think there is no provision for "separation of church and state" in the constitution. Which means you don't have to protect the state from the church.

Religion and governments should be separate. The main reason is that all religion is based on belief. Beliefs cannot be proven. So if you have religion and governments mixed then you have state policies based on unproven ideas. Governments need to be just and fair and you cannot do that if its actions are based on the biases of unprovable beliefs.

When you combine religions, especially fundamentalist ones as in Iran, you end up with aggressive hostile countries that end up trying to make war with its neighbors.

Europe was torn apart by religious wars for hundreds of years. We are experiencing a similar thing now in the Middle East that will continue until there is an effective separation of religions and governments. Those who seek to impose Sharai Law in their countries are trying to force those countries back into that conflict.

That said it is incorrect to ask if someone "BELIEVES" in separation of church and state. Most people use the word "believe" in a religious manner, or they use it to pretend they know something when they don't. Asking the question that way biases the answer. You should have asked "Do you THINK it is better to have separation of church and state?" Let's try a little harder to move into the 21st century out of the dark ages of religious belief.

In the sense that the church shouldn't be the government like the Vatican rules Vatican City, then yes, the church and state should be separate.

But if that is used as an excuse to attempt to force Christian morals and values out of government in the United States of America, I disagree totally. This country was based on Christian morals and ethics. If that is a problem for someone, then they should go back to the country of their origin or somewhere that has their beliefs already in place.

yes and no!
Yes because each institution has its independent structure. There are matters that must be attended by the state and there are those by the church.
No because the two should be comlementary in serving the people and country. For how can a country stand if the institutions leading them is divided.

I think a theocracy can't not by its nature be a democracy. That is why I am absolutely against separation of church and the state.

I used to believe in it, even took it for granted. But after more than two hundred years, the noble experiment is over. In the name of democracy, democracy is being destroyed. In the name of freedom, freedom is being strangled. In the name of Jesus, war is being waged. Go figure!
