4 years to get a Bachelors Degree in education. That is enough to get a job teaching in the public schools. Usually to teach at the college level, you will need a Master's degree which add a few more years to your education.

Depending on how studious you are it shouldn't take you more than four or five years. Two of those years will be general education courses and two will be teacher certification prep courses. You'll have two semesters (one year) of in-classroom clinicals where you work with a host teacher and pretty much learn how to do what it is you'll be doing. You'll be graded on classroom management, curriculum planning and creativity among many other things. Depending on what grade you want to teach and what your salary needs/wants are you may or may not want to go for your Masters which will add an additional two years on to your schooling. Check out colleges to see which college has the best teaching program for you. Not all colleges are created equal. NIU (Northern Illinois University) has a wonderful teachers program.

Forget the last answer--lots of teachers depend on dictionaries and stuff. I just would spell-check everything you put out there.

I took many art education classes at the University of Iowa. They have a great art education department with wonderful teachers and lots of hands-on experience. One of the best in the country, I think! (Website below).

Honestly, I wouldn't want you teaching my children, if you stick to this sort of spelling. Are you sure it's a teacher you really want to be?
