For over a year I have planned a trip in Jordan. Amman to Dead Sea to Petra. In view of the present situation in the Middle East I am wondering whether to confirm and pay for this now. Or cancel my provisional bookings.
Any advice, information appreciated

I live in Amman, Jordan, and despite all the hullaballoo in the M. East, it is pretty safe. I'd say book it. The Dead Sea and Petra are worth the trip =) Just remember not to get into any taxis at night by yourself (if you're a woman). if you're a man, this is ur turf. and anyway, as i say myself... if disaster decides to strike, doesn't matter where u are... in amman, Jordan or safe in your bathroom in your locked house, it will. Take the trip if you can make it, and Insha'allah, u'll have a good time!

Jordan is a lovely place, and the dead sea will be great in November cause it is hot in the summer, Petra also is a must see, Jordanians love tourists, but as the earlier post said they are not used to seeing women ( Especially blonds) going around on their own that only outside Amman the capital, but you should visit the capital too it is very nice and lots of things to see. as for the booking, do not worry about the war next door, but you can still book next month if you want to see what goes on.

Wars, like the poor, will always be with us.
Unfortunately you will not be. Life is short. How urgently do you wish to visit Jordan?
To the best of my knowledge Jordan isn't especially dangerous even in the present climate. Governments always advise if a destination is not safe to travel to, or stay in. I had arranged a visit to London then we had the 7 Jul 2006 bombings. I still went and loved every minute of it. I am a firm believer that if anything is going to happen it will anyway. These are simply my thoughts. Think carefully and make up your own mind. Have a good life!

My friends booked a trip to London and arrived on the day of the underground bombing. At first they were horrified, but as it turned out, this incident had put the whole of London and England on the alert, many police around, many security checks and all this made them feel safe and secure.
I think if we were all to put off travel because of problems in a country, we'd never go anywhere.
Not the USA, not Central America, not South America, not Spain, not UK....

I'd go.
Tension in the area is undeniable but Jordan is not in the firing line.
If you are British check on the foreign office advice for travellers. Really good site. Would have saved me a lot of trouble when I travelled to Bangkok but that's another story....

No go ahead and go to Jordan. I will be headed that way in December. There is no one or nothing that can stop me. The Jordanian people, as are most arabs, are very hospitable. Go! Explore and have fun!
