Don't be silly little lady, Denmark ain't no real country. It was the place that the Umpa Lumpa's live right, all just make believe.

An' everybody this side of Alabama knows that the capital of Amsterdam is Scotchland. You must think we's stupid.

I'm off to shoot me some Mexicans
Howdy.

I'm not an American, but a Dutch person who would be interested in knowing how come that some Americans think so!

As both Holland and Denmark are small countries many people will probably not know exactly where they are and get confused.
But not just Americans make mistakes... I recall that my Canadian penfriend was convinced that Holland was a part of Germany, and even after I gave her my address, she insisted on adding "Germany" to my address once. It did arrive, though! (and this is quite a sensitive issue for many dutch people, because of the history).

And when a Danish friend sent me a letter with "The Netherlands" in my address, it somehow ended up in Switzerland. The Swiss people kindly forwarded it, but was this just a mistake? It happened twice!

Let's be fair though. You would probably find more people who think that "The Hague" is the capital of the Netherlands. Well, it is not, Amsterdam is the capital and The Hague is the residence! Perhaps we Dutch should blame ourselves for making it so complicated - we are Dutch, but are from the Netherlands that some people call Holland. And then we got a capital that isn't the same as the residence ;-)

I'm afraid there are still people (read: Americans) who think that Holland is the capital of Denmark...

Country: The Netherlands (not Holland)
Capital: Amsterdam

Country: Denmark
Capital: Copenhagen

Good luck!

I never did think that Holland was the capital of Denmark. Holland is a country not a city. Besides Denmark's capital is Copenhagen.

Heehee, silly Noezzelle, it´s the other way around: Denmark is the capital of Holland.

And the capital of Amsterdam is de Bijlmer.
Google that.

Monkey fluuffer stole all my material so I'll just slope off and sulk.

Anyway, everyone knows Holland is the capital of Prague.
We stayed there two nights on the way to see the Taj Mahal in Dusseldorf.

attempt finding them up. on a similar time as doing that, undergo in concepts that there isn't any longer actual a u . s . talked approximately as Holland. that could be a close-by of a u . s . talked approximately as the Netherlands even in spite of the indisputable fact that, in English, that is often used extremely of the call of the country.

I suspect that there will be, just as there are people "out there" who think there is life on Mars. Why are you asking this question to american friends when your question is appearing on the United Kindgom web-page - are you anti - social or is it that only americans don't know any geography?
