YOu can trade them in for A NEW CAR!

Sadly, it's a Yugo.

Seriously, the points allow you to move up levels where you can do more (as you will notice, you are limited to questions asked, answers given and votes dispensed, according to Level)

The goal is to get to Level 5, where the doors open.

After Level 7, it's a footrace to catch Kevin and Jane (numbers one and two on the overall leader board)

Now that I have some Y. A. statistics, I find that I'm pleased by my current 'batting average' for 'best answer.' Improving that looks like a brag-worthy pursuit, and the pursuit could be a source of friendly rivalry. But I won't take it seriously until I've posted 100 answers. Sample's too small to be meaningful.

I don't know (nor do I care, really) what the rating system was originally aimed at. It's not a particularly good system, and the 'vote for best answer' bit is completely wrong-headed. Instead, I think, you should vote for worst answer, unwitting of how others have voted, stomping that most wretched answer towards oblivion, killing it just a little. The 'best answer' is thus that one with the fewest dings, when one answer emerges as the unique least dinged, or when all other answers have been 'slaughtered'; that system, I think, would encourage people to exercise their mouse power. EVERYONE has the ability to say, "Oh, wow, these answers suck, but that one is drawing flies," but many of us do not feel particularly adept at critical analysis. The system I suggest would also eliminate the easy 'cheat' of simply posting an answer and voting for it as soon as the voting opens. I shall demonstrate that cheat: I shall answer a posted question with the answer, "Duck cheese," and I will vote for it when the voting opens. Eventually that answer will be 'best answer', and be worth ten points, because I'm the only voter on it. (N. B, I do have ethical standards: I won't post "Duck cheese" in answer to a respectable question.)

When you search for something, you don't always get what you're looking for. The idea is for you to be able to be garanteed almost that you will get an answer and to give other people answers. When you join, you get100 points. Every time you ask a question you lose 5 points. Everytime you answer you get 2 points. For voting you get 1(That's voting on a best answer, by the way), and for logging in you get 1. As you advance you can ask an answer more questions. The goal is to answer enough to gain enough points to reach level seven.Oh! if your answer is chosen as a best answer to a question, you get 10.In your myQ&A, you have your profile. you can add things like links to your blog, add you email, and it show the questions you've asked and answered. As for prizes, you simply get congrats and i think if you reach level seven you are notified of upcoming products and programs and features and maybe even get to test them ahead of time. As for how to use your profile, just click on everything and you'll get the idea, that's how I learned. But yes, this is mainly for fun. Good luck!

The more points you have the more addicted to this site you are, the more 'free time' you have on your hands to fritter and waste on here, and, in some cases, the points are a good indication of how difficult your struggles are with external-validation issues, or even how badly you need therapy of some sort.
