I would try separating by events, birthdays, christmas, reunions and things like that, then I would mostly try to fill it up chronologically, which is how most albums would be filled if you were doing it methodically. Try to figure out what age you are or what year it is (sometimes marked on front or back of pictures) and make piles for that then you can blend other pictures together if you remember what year they occurred. Be sure to have enough photo albums on hand. You may want to make one of just your immediate family and then have others of cousins, aunts or friends. Good Luck and remember... a thousand mile journey begins with one step.

Divide photos into chronological and other categories (people, events, etc). You may want to have an album for "1995" and you may want one for "grandma" and one for "Emily's Wedding." If you have duplicates, this is a good way to split some of those up.

Get rid of bad pictures or duplicates that don't matter. If it's a bad shot and you have another decent photo of the event or person, get rid of it!! Why keep all the bad shots? Duplicates can be similarly eliminated (i recommend shredding!) or tucked into cards and shipped off to other people who are in the photos. That cuts down on a lot.

Buy more photo albums than you think you will need. You'll always end up needing more. I like the ones with notes right on the side of the page--you can put the photo in, write who is in it, and other details and move on to the next photo.

Don't get too hung up on "this was april 1995" and this was "may 1995"

They have a wide assortment of photo albums
today, one that could assist you is the individual
photo sleeve with a place to write down the event.
First you'll need to review your photos and sort
them into catagories that you like. It could be themes,
year order, event etc. Take you time, don't rush it.
You might want to even give some of them like your
double prints to your family, friends etc. Have you
heard of scrap booking? After you decide what you'd
like to do. Check with some of friends and see what
they have done to give you an idea on a process.
It's wonderful, you've kept your photos and that your
wanting to be organized. Now have fun with your
memories.

Here is what i did....

I bought a photo album for each member of my family

*My parents wedding and their long ago photos
*A family album --- from vacations or any important occasions in your family
*An album for your sister/brother from their birth... childhood to the present
*and my sister have an album photos with her friends and from her nursery... primary... secondary and soon in college days.

You could put a name in the album and arrange it in chronological order.

If you have many photos then why not make a collage. I just made last month and made it framed and now hanged in our living room.... my mom loves it so much. The other day i saw her teary eyed because she remembers the moments behind those pictures.
