I'm in my late 20s and have had a long spell at 2 univesities, coming out with a 2:2 which thwarts my ambition to be rich and successful in my mind. I have only really done lowly sales jobs and seasonal type adventure jobs. Any ideas on how I can find a career that suits my need for mental stimulation/management/creativity and has great rewards?
I have great leadership and people skills, intelligent and creative.
I find job searches frustrating and can't seem to find the things that 'turn me on'.

The answer here is absolutely clear, if not what you want to hear. You have a sound education and inherent skills but you must now provide proof of those. A great education does not provide you with a great career ... people tend to progress through life on what they can prove, how they handle themselves and often who they know.
You clearly have no set career inspirations but even in your late twenties you have great scope in front of you. It's that old maxim ... you have to start somewhere ..... of course job searches are frustrating because they never meet your aspirations and are often well over subscribed.
We have all been there ..... I think you should take this whole matter quietly and slowly .... your own emotional intelligence will see you through this. I suggest you simply swamp the job adverts with time and energy, things will somehow fall into place and direction will come as to what you should apply for. Job hunting is dam hard work and 99% disappointing. Simply get yourself into that 1% when something happens. Look at jobs that are perhaps alien to you in nature ... simply get in somewhere and try and be successful in that. Its simply all experience, isn't it .... if you are good, and seen to be good, you can only move forward. At the moment, you have little to offer an employer .... so go out and get that experience. Show what you can do ..... learn from others ... watch and observe those that do well ... they are your best mentors ...... good luck!

Hi,

With the job market becoming increasingly competitive, use your sales and people skills to get you ahead. I've had a load of great jobs (e.g.: procurement and marketing) through making my own opportunities.

Firstly prepare a pitch that is only a maximum of 5 mins long about why a Company should hire you. Then be proactive and innovative. Target senior managers for organisations you would like to work for, you need to be innovative (get into Conferences after event parties etc). If your successful there's often no tests/assessment centres just an informal interview or probationary period as you have already proved yourself. Also once you're in you have a vital contact who is in senior management!

Good luck

join the club. You won't find anything like that advertised on job websites without having some experience. Best to get a job somewhere and stick it out for a few years and keep checking the internal jobs boards. Either that or you could look into starting your own business maybe.
I got a 2:2 aswell and have had a string of crap jobs last 2 years, then recently decided to get into I.T so i'm doing a self study course and looking out for work experience.

good luck!

I would go to a careers advisor, don't take this personally but i think you stayed at university for too long, qualifications are great but i fear it may now look as though you were afraid to leave Uni. There should be a careers advisor near by you i would go see him or her, to put you on the right path, good luck i'm sure you shall find what you're after soon.
