To say honestly, Buffon is better than Barthez having a better grip on the ball!

Between them my pick can only go to Buffon, my best one.
After Buffon - when WC was starting - my best were Casillas and Cech. When WC was going on, I was impressed by Ricardo and AMAZED from Lehmann (finally I knew why Klinsmann choose him and not Kahn). He's so far the best world goalie in "high ball". In semi-final, Italy had 12 corner kicks and he blocked quite them ALL but the last two (and this happened in e.t. only), the last one was deadly (Grosso scored).
I've never seen before such a perfomance on "high balls".
So. my ranking is
1. Buffon (link 1 - 2)
2. Lehmann (link 3)
3. Ricardo (link 4)
4. Casillas (link 5)
5. Cech (link 6)

Between those two alone I'd say Buffon. He makes some nice clean saves. Barthez has a good eye and nice catch but he's been a bit clumsy recently, having trouble with his grips, maybe b/c of his age. This tournament I've also been very impressed by Ricardo (POR) and of course Kahn (GER).

None... Buffon's good, but too egoistic, and Bartez's too old. Oliver Kahn is the best !!! And of course, then comes Jens Lehmann and Timo Hildebrand (even he did not appear once in the WC field)... He will become number one player after Lehmann's gone. Waiting for WC 2010 -- winner will be Germany!!!

buffon is the best keeper in the world. Also the only keeper to allow two goal this world cup. One was an own goal and the other a penalty kick.

I hate the Italian team. But I will say it's Buffon hands down. He made a great save on Zidane's header.

you got to be joking!

it's like comparing a fantastic goalkeeper against a clown who thinks he's a goalie, in that order respectively.

look at buffon's WC records. only 2 goals conceded. the 1st from his defender's own goal and the second from zizou's penalty.

then take a look at barthez... a goal conceded agst the koreans? he used to be good but nowadays more clumsy than ever. a clowning glory awaits him...
