No they wouldnt.

>>A lot of people in Italy dont even like Materazzi because of his football style. People would have been saying " seeee...he IS a ******." He plays like a predatory wild animal(see video).

Italy and Inter Milan defender Marco Materazzi has had enough of being the hate figure of Serie A, following two weeks in which he's been publicly called an "animal" and a "delinquent".

>>People in France absolutely love Zidane, hes a national hero.

"You are a virtuoso, a genius of world football," Chirac said, according to The Associated Press. "You are also a man of heart, commitment, conviction. That's why France admires and loves you."

In that lies the difference.

What are you talking about? Zidane has not been defended nearly as much as he should be.

No I do not justify what Zidane did, however the pure fact that Materazzi was fined and suspended as well, goes to show that Materazzi's actions were equally WRONG!!!

Zidane is experiencing the negative consequences of his head butt, however Materazzi deserves to receive an equal amount of negative press...unfortunately I have yet to see ONE featured piece of media that shames Materazzi.

And to your specific question...the tables would not have been turned as Zidane would not have insulted Materazzi.

Zidane is a class player, while Materazzi is pure classless...

I don't think they would.

Why?

Italy has many talented players, and Materazzi isn't even one of the best on their team. He did his job decently at the WC, but you can't compare him with Cannavaro or Nesta.

France, on the other hand, totally depended on Zidane to win a match. Hadn't he been there, they wouldn't have been able to defeat Brazil and Portugal. For many French fans, Zidane is a soccer god and a national hero, that's why so many people are defending him.

well, some ppl wud b outraged coz it was Zidane's last game and u just DONT head-butt somone like Zidane. It's just not done. The Italians wud definitely defend Materazzi, but not as much as Zidane coz the Italians hav a reputation 4 being vicious players, so ppl wud say "u see, they r a bunch of wild animals!" or something like that. Personally, i think they were both wrong and both of them should hav been sent off

do you all live on anther planet?........Materazzi shoud of got nothing............according to the rules.........fifa can only do something if it had been a racial slur.....the only reasons Materazzi got suspended is because he's italian and if it had been Materazzi who had head-butted his suspension would of been double or triple of what Zidane got.........and may I remind everyone that Zidane in his carerr has been suspended for a total of 14 games......and that doesn't include the 3 games he just got which is a joke...........he's very far from being a saint........you want a role model..........look at Baggio or Maldini......or Cannavaro..........and for one last time.......please state facts........and accept the truth.......your Zizou is an ***........grew up in the slums and that stayed in him........he has no class whatsoever.......France must be in deep trouble to make him a hero........and if I was fifa I would suspend and heavily fine Gallas for his threats towards Materazzi on the Sun newspaper........so you know what...........if you don't know what you're talking about just shut-up.....that way you won't make fools of yourself..........the end...........Grazie Azzurri..........Viva Italia!!!!!!!

Considering the kinda person Zidane has been over the years, one wouldn't expect him to do that kinda thing.
I guess that's the main reason pple are defending him.

everyone knows that italy didn't play well in the finals as france, they don't deserve the cup and i think that Materazzi deserves the head-butt.
