I have cable net access w/ wireless router. Will my downloads be faster if I used a network cable to router instead of the wireless?

Are you talking hard wiring from your router instead of using the wireless from your router? If so, yes it is faster than the wireless. If you don't know for sure do some downloads and compare their speeds. You should find that the hard wired computer will download faster.

If your signal is weak, maybe.
Your true bottleneck though is your modem.
For instance, if your wireless card does 11Mbits/sec, and your modem's maximum download speed is 5 Mbits/sec, then the card is easily able to utilize the modem's maximum speed with room left over.
If on the otherhand your signal is so weak that you are only getting 2Mbits/sec from your wireless card, then using an ethernet cable instead is a definite advantage.
Now, as for internal network functions such as transferring files etc. from one computer on the network to another, then a cabled connection is almost always way faster.

Downloads and uploads are only as fast as the weakest link in the network.

Wired connections should be faster than wireless, though if you are connecting to a REALLY slow or overtaxed server, the difference may not be so striking.

Yes. Unless you have one of the newer cards, your dl using wireless will tap out at 11 Mbs, whereas your cabled dl will be 100 Mbs, provided you have a 10/100 ethernet card.

Additionally, a cable will not be subject to radio "noise".

Probably not. Your speed is limited by the slowest link and your cable internet will always be the slowest link in the equation. You should be using 802.11b at a minimum for your wireless and your signal quality should be at least "good" to be sure everything is working okay.

I have wireless and have had issues with the wireless card shutting down when its downloaded too much information. So i have my computer hardwired and allow my roommate to use the wireless. If you are downloading big files go with hard wired small files wireless should be fine.

Probably not. If you have a "G" wireless router (or even "B") this speed is, while slower than 100 base-TX (cabled), faster than your broadband connection
