Wouldn't that be more appropriate behavior than giving a shoulder rub to the German Chancellor?

You can't be serious. Obviously, you know little to nothing about the highest office in the United States. Do you really believe that he has TIME to attend the funerals? Have past presidents attended soldiers funerals? Are you really so short-sighted that you believe this is a 'Bush thing'? Some of you that bash him for THIS are so out of touch, it's scary to think we have people like this in the United States. How embarrassing.

Showing up to a funeral will remind people of the loss of war.

The Bush administration is doing its Orwellian best to fight war and have nobody pay attention to it.

Think about it. How do you react when you hear about a couple soldiers killed in Iraq. You take note, and then read the sports page. (Or some other page.)

It doesn't affect your life.

So, to acknowledge a flag draped coffin is to acknowledge a war is going on and people are getting killed.

Just imagine if the main stream media actually showed what was going on over there.

Over 2500 Americans killed, thousands wounded, and tens to hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed. Many innocent men, women and children.

Don't know for a fact that he hasn't, but I can understand why he wouldn't. Can you imagine the media circus of having a president attend anyone's funeral...Special security, newspaper reporters, sightseers, etc.? Funerals are a private time of mourning and grieving for the family. The president's presence, who obviously didn't even know the soldier, would have been intrusive.

BTW, he has made many visits to wounded soldiers in the hospital.

I heard him say in an interview with Larry King, he does not attend funerals for soldiers because he cannot attend them ALL. He says it would not be fair to pick and choose who's funeral to attend because they all deserve equal respect, therefor he doesn't attend any. (shrug) Maybe the truth is his concience can't handle it.

The president doesn't have time to attend all those funerals. If he went to one then he would have to attend them all. Would you rather see him attending funerals or trying to protect our country?

Probably he fears the reaction of the parents/friends of the deceased soldier.

Because he doesn't care about military men. For him they are simple instruments of war, not human beings who loved their country that they went to war for it.
