Most computers will shut down the hard drive after a while and you can even set it up to do so. It is best to leave all electronic equipment on, turning off and on is what wears them out. The cost of leaving it on is very low, you would not even notice it.

No. My computer has been on for years, except for the occasional reboot for updates. I do have my monitor go into the suspend or sleep mode to save on electricity. The utility bill would go up mainly because of the monitor. Have fun, cheers.

It shouldn't hurt the computer, but you should turn it off from time to time. There are program updates that don't complete installation if the computer is not re-started. Also, sometimes a program will not release it's hold on a file so that you cannot delete it until after the computer has been turned off and re-started..

No, it's not going to harm it if all the components are sufficienty cooled, the case is kept clean, and there are tools setup on the system to prevent it from being attacked from an outside source.

(You need firewall, virus, and spyware to do the last part - I use hardware firewall myself)

As far as energy conservation, your monitor takes the most power to drive it so just shut it off when you're not using it.

No it will not harm your computer to leave it on all the time. All electrical units use power but it should not be that much really.

it might b harmful if u on it all time, but if u find any breakages in electricity then it might damage ur computer's hardware or software, other wise if it is on and not processing anything it will be in "Stand by" position as per time is set.
or it may be shut off automatically after some time

As long as the processor is sufficiently cooled and the PC itself properly ventilated it should not be harmful. It will cost you for the electricity though.

With a mac os x, nope its amazing, you could leave it on for like 4 months ( like i did) and its faster than ever. Im telling you with an apple computer, you can, but i recently had a windows xp home edition, and left it on for a week, and then the crappy windows froze and would turn on and on automatically!!!!!! i wasted 2,000 dollars for nothing!!!!!!! i hate windows, i luv mac os x, it works and you can leave it on for ever and everything functions proparly. ( i have a mac os x tiger edition ibook G4)
