Your body has a natural mechanism which maintains the internal temperature of your body to around 37.5 degrees Celcius. This mechanism is known as homeostasis, which triggers a negative feed back when the there is a change in the internal enviroment of the body in order to maintain a state of equilibrium.
When a stimuli such as heat from the external enviroment causes a change in the bodys temperature, a negative feed back is sent to the hypothalamus of the brain. This would cause response effect at different regions of the body to lower the temperature. Changes such as the vasodilation of blood vessels to increase surface area and heat loss, the lower of hair foliciles on skin to lower trapped heat, the secretion of sweat from the sweat glands in your skin are some response your body would initiate to lower the temperature. At the same time the hypothalamus would also send signals such as thrist, increasing the water intake which helps lower the bodys temperature.
As you grow older, some of your bodies functions may not be as efficient as they used to be. Should there be a problem with the negative feed back system, the body would be unable to maintain homeostasis resulting in higher temperatures in body (above normal) which could ultimately lead to death.

dehydration is the biggy. It is hard to breath when it is really hot. it gets too hot to eat. Those are just some of the factors. A few days of really hot weather wont kill everyone but sick people or the elderly dont do well and those are the ones that could pass because of the heat.

If you don't drink enough water, it can AT LEAST put you in the hospital
People keel over from heat exhaustion all of the time throughout the summer.
Drink fluids. Drink more if you're going to be outside for an extended period of time. If you ARE going to be outside for a while, take breaks from the sun if you can.
Summer heat is brutal!

People need some type of air moving over them, they sweat, overheat, dehydrate, the heart can't take the stress. This is more relevant in older individuals, and those that may be out of shape or exhausted.

During hot weather you need to drink extra because of the sweating you do. If you do not, eventually your body will run low on fluids. Your bloodpressure will drop, and eventually vital organs like your kidneys will shut down.

Dehydration, heat stroke, hyperthermia not to be confused with hypothermia. The answers are many. Old age can contribute to excellerating the effects of hypothermia causing the the normal body temp. to rise above 98.6, in turn bringing about premature death if not treated in time.

You can suffer from heat stroke and dehydration, and yes you can die from that. So, it is best to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks into an air conditioned building.
