I took my van in for repairs on the windshield wipers and brakes. The wipers don;t work at all still and the brakes are making a funny noise now. If I take it back again to be done right should I have to pay for labour again? Is there a law backing me up?

Check their warranty policy. I used to give customers 6 months or 6000 miles on my labor and whatever warranty was on the parts that I installed. If something was my fault then I fixed it for free. if they are a reputable company then they should stand behind their work. Maybe they thought they fixed the wipers and a loose wire or a hiidden short made them fail again. Go tell them you are still having a noise but you are not sure if its the brakes or not. I love when people would come to me and tell me they wanted something changed, and I would change it. Then they would pick it up and complain that it wasnt fixed. Well, thats what you told me to change. They didnt tell me they were having a noise somewhere in the vehicle. They just thought they diagnosed it themselves. Please tell them its not fixed. I'm sure they want to preserve their reputaion and they cant do that if they dont know that they didd wrong. If they try to screw you call the cops and the BBB (better business burea)

I would take it to a different shop.
DON'T tell them that you took it somewere else first and the other people screwed it up. Shops usualy know each other and don't like you talking bad about the other shop.

Tell the NEW mechanic what concerns you have with the van.
Don't ask them to "Only fix this."
Allow them to find the faults, and tell you what the "cause" of the problem is.
This should be free at this point.
Now it's your decision weather to have the repairs done.
Or, take it back to the original shop for repairs with proof in your hand.

Don't know about the law in your area, but usually if you are complaining about the same problems you complained about the first time, depending upon the actual concern then they should warranty it if reputable.

Where I used to work at we were 12 month/12,000 mile warranty but we didn't let a vehicle leave until the problem was either fixed or customer knew why it wasn't fixed.

If you are having issues, I would say let another shop look at it to give you an idea but be aware they do charge for estimates (our shop did after too many freebie estimates where they ran to the local autozone and fixed it themselves)

Look at your receipt. Some receipt have a time limit that your can get a repair redone for no charge if there was a faulty part used. I don't know about a law covering that, but if you take it to another mechanic and the repair was done wrong, you can take it to small claims court. However, again look at your receipt, some receipts specifically state that you have to contact them and let them take a crack at repairing it first or you have no recourse.

i think he is ripping you off

if you watch those scams documentary, they say that a scam mechanic will purposely damage your car even more just so you will pay MORE for the repairs..

I dont know about the law, maybe he was caught on camera or something. Find some evidence
