Gee love that first answer, that explains during the Clinton administration why we didn't then either. I guess Clinton must have been paid by the oil companies as well?

We do not want to curb the usage of gasoline, oil is still the cheapest most plentiful form of energy we have. Until something comes along that is better AND cheaper, we will use oil.

This is basic supply and demand folks, we may be, with emphasis on may, at the very beginnings of a time frame where demand is growing faster then supply. If this is true the the recent price increases (over the last couple years), will continue. At some point, it will no longer be the cheapest or most plentiful option, at that point something else will take its place.

Till that happens, get over it.

There is a huge program out there to curb the usage of gasoline. Have you seen the $3.00 a gallon at the pump in the US? It over $6 is some countries in Europe. If that doesn't make you curb your usage, taking it away sure isn't going to help anything. We do have an economy to keep rolling here.

There IS a policy to curb the usage of EVERYTHING that is available to us. It is called the law of supply and demand. tm_tech32 has entered the true answer.

In fact supply & demand exists beyond all falsely and forcibly imposed laws. If a government institutes its own law to change usage, supply & demand is still in force and will insure corruption of the new rule.

When something is in short supply, (ie: rationing, regulation or genuine shortage) its price increases. The increase in value is an incentive which insures that supply will follow.

I don't think that's what we need. There is such a thing right now of individual responsibility. Buy cars that get better gas mileage. Plan your route(s) when running errands, etc. I've been conserving for years.
We especially need to put pressure on our gvmt. officials to push hard for the development of alternative energy. How about cars powered by air? We have brilliant people on this planet. Greed holds them at bay. Kind of hard to charge for air.

I think that any law can be put into effect, but our government is run by big business, etal...oil companies, pharma, car companies. They should not even be able to sell big SUV's, gas guzzler Hummers. I think we should be rationed, since Americana's are greedy and want everything to be "big" and "powerful" it will never happen. Unless we are forced to, and that day will come, oh yes it will....

There is such a limit on the use of gasoline, it is the price to the consumer. As the price goes up, use goes down.

Because it is impractical and won't work.

Back when there was more at stake - World War II, there was rationing of gasoline. This was largely ineffective and corruption was rampant.
