Wow, toughie. I love Sinatra and all the old crooners from the 50's, but the 70's had all that great classic rock like Led Zeppelin. And I grewup in the 90's, so I am partial to that too! I gotta go with the 1970's.

60s were good, 70s were the best, 80s were nice... but then?
I'm a rock fan. Rock hit it's peak during the mid to late 70s. Just my opinion, of course. I'm a Genesis, Yes, Foreigner, ELO, and dozens of others fan. Rock got it's start in the 50s, but really got good during the 60s, and during the 70s it just exploded.... after that, few really innovative things came about.
Today, I'm mainly interested in instrumental stuff like new age and jazz just because that seems to be where the innovative stuff exists or, perhaps, because my musical tastes have evolved or matured (if you will) to that point.
'nuff said?

50's is my fav - so much fun stuff!....just love that sound even though it was WAY before my time. 60's were cool, but the British invasion took away the 50's sound that I loved, so I'm not crazy about the music of that decade. 70's - ah, way too much disco in the later half. I did like the stuff around the time of 1972-1975...kind of nice... Creative, soft, and lots of acoustic - lol, today's "Lite" music. 80's were fun at the time - Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson, but the music doesn't stand up well now. 90's were hot....the alternative stuff....Nirvana, Gin Blossoms, Pearl Jam....very cool music, but it's still too close for me to appreciate it like I appreciate the retro sounds of the 50s.

50's was when rock was invented, but was thought of as a "kid's fad", not very serious but young and energetic.
60's was when creativity and experimentation began, also self-importance first appeared in rock, good decade.
70's self-importance and pomposity grew so large as to start a revolution, punk. crappy til the revolt got swinging.
80's the new revolution splintered, spawning the terrible generic mess we now call "alternative", which has no real meaning if it includes virtually everything.
90's counter-revolution against "alternative", along with fusion of rap with rock, and grunge, hearkening back to "punk roots", no new ground broken, recycling of old ideas, with some new twist (from rap)
00's back to bubblegum crap for pre-teens (am. idol, fall out boy, etc)

Honestly I can't answer that question because I like all of those years for music, but I guess if I had to pick one, I would pick the 60s.
