I've never seen a happy racist - they always seem grim.
Do they realize that the more hateful they are the more miserable their own lives will be?

You cannot practice racism without being personally (negatively) affected by it.

I have lived in places where people like that are so smug and ignorant it never occurs to them that they are anything but normal.
You read some of the ignorant hate mongers here and they aren't worth your time. Its the ones who seem more educated that get my attention because they should know better. They breed hate and bias. Speak up and fight back as most of us do.

Sadly, hate and bigotry are not limited to one race.

The reason bigots are unhappy is that they see their way of life threatened by the people against whom they are prejudiced. Sometimes, they are right. There are many times when a society is built, then leveled by other people who have been granted admission, but fail to contribute equally. They require support by those who built the original system. When this happens, those who built the system find it to be eroded and less desirable. The logical place to place the blame for this decline in the society is upon those who take from, rather than give to, the system. This makes for unhappy people who become racist. It is logical that racism is brought upon people who were very happy before having thier lives disrupted by the people who they must now support. They see those people as a negative in the soceity. Perhaps bigotry is not always wrong. Racism is frequently a response, rather than a personality trait.

Interesting question!

I am white, grew up in a white family. My father told me once that black people are lazy and my grandmother on my mom's side would not drink out of a glass that had been used by a black person. However, I wouldn't say they were particularly unhappy. Nor would I say that it made me racist - I *always*, even from a child, felt that some of the things they said about black people were wrong.

Later in life I married a black woman and have never been happier. But I wouldn't say that my happiness comes from her being black or me not feeling racist.

If happiness has anything to do with it, I'd say that happiness probably comes not from who we hate or how we hate them, but from who we love and how we love them.

Most racist are unhappy people who need a group to blame for what they see as lifes problems. If you are happy and content then you really dont have any interest in racism

But they seem unaffected by the levels of hate they regurgitate onto others. Perhaps they find solace and camaraderie with others who are equally racist as they are.

I agree that if you are worried about every [insert here a series of epithets used to describe races in a negative way. Go on, put in as many as you like] out there, it has got to churn your guts and affect your mental and physical health.

a racist is like a fellow with a boil on his nose. he can't see past it and they are certainly not happy. but it gives their animal passions a vent.
other bigots like religious ones may feel they are promised eternal bliss in the afterlife, whatever it means! meanwhile they are free to enjoy their favourite pastime

As long as they are resentful because they think someone owes them something due to the circumstances of history, they will be unhappy.
