Best way is to exceed your manager's expectations. Show you are deserving of a raise. Do some research on the market value of your profession and if you are under paid, make a case for yourself.

Ask for one directly if you deserve it. Look sharp when you ask. Be able to explain why you deserve one. If denied, ask what it will take to deserve one. If they give you a BS answer, be prepared to find a new job.
