You will know if the email you sent a message is not active if the email server sent you back an email with subject, like, "Delivery Status Notification (failure)", something like that, it depends on the mail server. there, you can read the "technical details of permanent failure" telling you why was the message sent back to you or cannot be delivered.

Send yourself an eMail at that address (from another email account). If the account is inactive you will get an email back saying 'unable to deliver'.

email is all active, just whether somebodys picking up the mail or not
