It depends on how you're travelling across Africa. If you're independent or just with a small adventure group, I would advise taking the jabs. If you get bitten, scratched or even have a cut licked by a rabid animal, you'll need to get the big shots quickly. If you're in an air-conditioned tour party, insulated from the 'real' Africa you won't need 'em. If you do get bitten you'll be in easy reach of medical attention.

I have lived and worked in Africa for a couple of years, I did not have a rabies jab and didn't see any rabid dogs. I think it is a personal choice thing really....

Yes! More than 99% of all human deaths from rabies occur in Africa, Asia and South America; India alone reports 30,000 deaths a year.

definitely, have all jabs that as necessary to go to Africa, if not you could regret it afterwards....
