will the '06 elections hinge on mr. bush's approval ratings? or his popularity? or not at all?

Bush is definitely not a popular 'incumbent'. Many of his policies have been scrutinized as unlawful or questionable, at the very least. We are at war, and it has been suggested he did not look at all the intelligence he should have to make an informed decision on whether we should have gone in or not. Will he help his constituents? He will help earn them money, which may be enough to help them win reelection. But for many of the more unpopular Congressional candidates, it will probably put them right out of office. Unless something 'wonderful' happens before the Congressional elections, like catching (or killing) Osama, I fear many of the seats will be lost in the Senate as well as the House.

If I were running on a Republican ticket I would pay him to stay away from me.

he'll probably help whoever the republican candidate is. I am not going to even pay any attention to him though.
