coz u love them...u cannot realise u will be apart from them...i said goodbye to my best friend 2 years ago when i had to leave to work in other city...i was upset for almost a year...now i have got over it...but i still miss my friend....she's away from me...we communicate of course but i miss her still so much...

it hurts because you have happy memories and those memories are kept in our heart that's why it hurts when someone close to you says goodbye.

Its one of an human emotion at work its called sadness, sorrow, grief ect. it generally takes effect when you are saying good bye to a person knowingly that you will not be seeing them soon. and that you will miss their company.
