I don't understand the points on Yahoo answers. You can only ask 5 questions a day and only answer a handful of questions. Does this allowance go up the more points you get?

ok, you get 2 points per question you ANSWER, you lose 5 points per question you ask. You get 3 points for choosing the best answer to a question you've asked, and 10 points for having your answer choosen as the best answer to a question that has been asked

Yes, as you accumulate more points, you will have the opportunity to answer more questions, vote more, etc.
Below your name you can see how many points you have currently. Click on the points and this will take you to a page that explains how the system works, what rights you have on the system depending on your level in the system.
Remember that by asking questions you use up points, which will make it harder to get to the next level.

2 point for answering.
5 points for asking a question.
3 points for choosing best answer.
The higher the level, the more questions you can answer.

yes the more point you get you go up a level .
to help get more points click on discover and vote or rate answers and if you pick best answer for this question you get 3 points back so your question costs 2.
I found when I used my quota up I would go vote or rate .
if you get a best answer you get 10 points and people rating your answer earns you one each rate up to max of 50.
click on Q&A then by your points click on tell me more .

it costs 5points to ask a question but you get 3points if you select a best answer. You get 2points for answering a question and can get 10points if your answer is selected the best. You can also get one point if you rate the best answer to questions.
You can ask and answer more questions the higher your level
