God Idea in principle.

You could try this company to see if they would be interested, they already do products like reverse and blind spot warnings. If you need to get you idea to market, you should try and get a Police force or a large company e.g RAC to pilot your product.

do you mean like reverse signal when a wagon selects reverse, how would a audible signal help, which way would you look, think about the application that would have to be a multidirectional finder to locate the approaching bike, ie from behind ,from the side. from the front the device would need to be visual as well as audible, what if two bikes approached from either side at the same time you are waiting at a t junction. a good idea in principle though.

Good luck. You could just do what Harley riders in my area do... run straight exhausts so that you can hear them a mile away.
The systems you mention are called ultrasonic proximity detectors. The are already in use in the rear of many automobiles for back up warning.
The only problem with this is no one would buy it. Including me. Who wants to hear an audible alarm go off when a bike approaches, when you can hear most of them from several car lengths away... with the windows up.
Here's a better idea... teach drivers how to drive better and be more aware of their surroundings. Ooops...the system for that is already in place... driver's ed. Oh well, we tried. Or require full width rear-view mirrors, perhaps.
No matter what you do, people are going to be stupid. You can't legislate intelligence. And please don't use my money to fund your doomed project. Cars are already too complicated. Cyclists are just going to have to be more careful. As far as getting four wheelers to pay more attention.... good luck.
'nuff said?

Sorry but the system would be going off constantly and the driver would become desensitised to it rapidly, or disable it as an annoying piece of irrelevent equipment.
Worse still it could cause accidents as the driver pulls out at a junction and the device suddenly goes off, he could brake suddenly and the car behind run into his rear end. This would present the biker with 2 cars in his path and no escape route to swerve around.

Um, wouldn't the money be better spent on better rider education courses? You can wrap the rider in pillows, put bumpers on all sides of it, basically turn a motorcycle into a large plush toy, and it still won't protect against ignorance. And, stupidity is always fatal...
