There are a number of considerations when it comes to deciding whether or not to put a patient on blood pressure medication. If you have a one time reading of 150/84 then the answer is no. If you are regularly reading 150/84 then the answer is Yes.
High blood pressure is considered anything over 120/75 and that is if you have no other health issue. If you are over weight, have diabetes, or have high cholesterol along with hypertension (high blood pressure) then these are the ingredients for what is known as metabolic syndrome. If that is the case you want your blood pressure to be even lower 115/70.
Talk to your doctor because they know your medical history, but my recommendation would be that you start on at least one blood pressure lowering agent if not two. Your doctor will most likely prescribe a thiazide diuretic initially.
Also you want to have your eyes checked because high blood pressure causes what is known as end organ damage. When a physician looks at your eyes with an opthalmoscope, he/she is usually looking at the vessels behind your eyes to see if your hypertension has effected them....If they have this is very telling for other organs in your body, in particular your kidneys since the vasculature is very similar.
It is easier to get your blood pressure under control then to correct the damage caused by it....SEE YOUR DOCTOR PLEASE.
Should you wish to fully educate yourself on hypertension you can read the JNC VII report on heart disease. I will include the link for you. I hope this helps.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Blood pressure changes from minute to minute so you need an average of several readings. The doc will take several things into consideration- like how old you are, what you weigh- and prescribe based on the best current knowledge. It's not panic time, but it's definitely something you should talk about the next time you see the dotor.

Not yet I would say. Cut down on your salt and fried and oily food. Add either 5-10 minutes of jogging daily or brisk walk of minimum 30 minutes and start doing Anulom-Vilom pranayam daily for minimum 15 minutes. Mine was 160/110 and was not coming down inspite of me taking BP pills for more than 6 weeks. But as soon as I started the above, within three weeks my BP has come down to 140/90.
And forgot to mention, the above were suggested by a Cardiologist I had consulted with. The doc is very satisfied with this progress and says if this continues, I would be off pills very soon.

150/84 is quite high. This depends on several things such as your age, family history, smoking habits, diet, stress factors just to name a few. It would be advisable to speak to your Dr about it and you may be prescribed something to control it. If you are able to maintain a more normal pressure with lifestyle changes, then you would probably be taken off it once this has stabilised. Hope this helps.

Your border line. Make you an appointment to go see a doctor soon as you can. And check it a few times a day. High blood pressure causes hardening of the arteries and stroke. This is not something you ignore. And cut out your salt in take...

No you are in the range of pre-hypertension so you are okay for now but you should address the reason that you are in that range. A good diet and exercise are imperative to lowering your BP and a long healthy life. For an excellent life changing program read a book called Body For Life by Bill Phillips and check out his website bodyforlife.com. I used to be 160/89 and after his twelve week challenge I was down to 106/72. Good luck and long life.

Your systolic is high. Your diastolic is below 90 and is borderline. Depending on your age, stress, diet, activity, hereditary and other factors you may be in need of medication. If you have optimized your health by controlling your diet intake and weight and can reduce stress your blood pressure will reflect lower readings. Reducing your blood pressure by taking blood pressure medication or improving your health is very helpful to avoid early damage to your eyes, heart, liver, kidneys. Your physician will determine whether based on your age and the factors I have addressed you should be on medication or simply alter your lifestyle.
